HELPING THE CHURCH IN NEW ORLEANS

Until recently the “non-monetary commitments” a diocese assumed in a Chapter 11 Bankruptcy proceeding were not often the stuff of news articles. They were usually buried within filings several hundred pages long, and read by virtually no one except bankruptcy attorneys, until it was too late to do much about them.

I hope this article, printed today in The Catholic World Report, begins to change that. As  described in the article, the promises the Archdiocese of New Orleans offered to make in their filing last month could spell trouble, not only for the faithful people of New Orleans, but for other dioceses that emulate their example. If you have any friends (clerical, religious, or lay) in the Archdiocese there, please let them know they have every right to share their concerns with the Archbishop and his civil attorneys:
